Dr. Lawrence brings over 40 years of experience as a systems engineer, cybersecurity consultant, technology developer, integrator, and leader in both the energy and telecommunication industries. Most recently, Bill has been involved in multiple projects related to the assessment of enterprise cybersecurity capabilities and the development of capability gap mitigation plans and roadmaps. In addition to his earlier work in the design of complex secure communications networks, technologies, and systems for the Department of Defense, he has built and led e-infrastructure professional services practices that provided strategic and project planning, design, and integration services for secure IT and communications systems to multiple Fortune 1000 companies.
Dr. Lawrence has also led the development of corporate level technology roadmaps and implementation plans for large communication and energy service providers, and equipment vendors, in both the telecommunications and energy industries. Bill has contributed to numerous technical standards and has led engineering teams that developed secure smart grid communications hardware and software.
Dr. Lawrence is a former member of the Board of Directors of the Smart Grid Interoperability Panel (SGIP) and a former member of the Board of Directors of the Smart Networks Council of the Utility Telecommunications Council. Bill holds a Ph.D. in Electronics Engineering from the University of Maryland, and an M.B.A in Business Management from Loyola University.
