Biography of David Coher
Acting Head, Compliance and Safety, Southern California Edison
An energy executive leading SCE’s Compliance and Safety Department, David leads teams responsible for regulatory matters as varied as cybersecurity, commodities markets, dam engineering, physical security, employee safety, and vendor management.
David has held a variety of roles with Southern California Edison, from his time as an attorney in the Law Department, where he handled litigation matters and then a variety of electric industry and commodity market regulation matters, to leading teams in business units covering commodity markets and reliability and cybersecurity. Throughout, David has sought to break otherwise complicated problems into simple, discrete issues that can be addressed and solved with less hand wringing and more action.
In addition, David is a sought-after speaker in the field, serving as a frequent guest speaker on technology, energy, and regulatory matters and is currently a member of the Georgetown Cybersecurity Law Institute’s Advisory Board.
David’s other endeavors include serving as a Planning Commissioner for the City of Pasadena, California, chair emeritus of the State Bar of California’s Committee on Group Insurance Programs, a Fellow of the Los Angeles County Natural History Museum, and being an active alumni leader of Long Beach City College, the University of Southern California, and the Georgetown University Law Center.
